The Yellow Road

The Yellow Road is the movements of space and the passage of time, the accumulation of knowledge they can bring; certainty and facts, writing and measurement and the recording of past, present and future alike. Yellow shares a love of knowledge and some travel-spells with the Blue Road, but their methods, reasons and approaches are usually rather different.

Yellow magic includes scrying spells and divinations of all sorts, from the revealing of information to the reading of past, present and future along with powerful teleportation magic. The Yellow Road also offers techniques for manipulating space and time; its spells can rob a foe of the power of movement, toy with their perception of the passage of time or simply tear them apart with distorted space.  The homes of many Yellow wizards are far larger inside than out and contain passages leading in unexpected directions, their possessions shielded from the ravages of age by time-suppression enchantments.  Advanced Yellow magic can also open doorways to other worlds within the Universe of the Nine Roads.

The philosophies and concepts of the Yellow Road include knowledge and the belief that the pursuit of knowledge is the best path to whatever a person desires, be it power, wealth or simply knowledge for knowledge’s sake, unshakeable certainty, usually rooted in proven knowledge of measurable facts, the desire to preserve knowledge, culture and written information from the ravages of time, the mysteries of space, time and other worlds, the desire to learn all that can be known, disbelief of that of which one has no knowledge or facts and the belief that what one has learned and measured is what one can control.

Many Yellow Road wizards are scholars, librarians and sages. Others are oracles, revealing that which was, is and yet shall be, archaeologists, explorers, cartographers or treasure-hunters. Some find employment with wealthy merchants, using their time-spells to preserve perishable goods for transportation, or simply performing the transportation themselves. In some lands, Yellow mages work in the judiciary system, using their divinatory powers to look into the past and determine guilt or innocence. Some Yellow wizards quest after immortality or seek to undo a past wrong or prevent a future one.

 Things associated with Yellow magic include topaz, oak and redwood trees, saffron, timepieces, maps, and paper.
